I have a recipe for you for today’s Foodie Friday. This is something we whipped up the other day. They taste great, and take very little work to get going in the slow cooker!

Software:

  • 3 lb of very lean beef steaks or roast (I use sirloin or round roasts when they go on sale)
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Hamburger buns

Hardware:

  • One very sharp slicing knife
  • Cutting board
  • One 3 quart slow cooker

Directions: Cube beef (about 1″ to 1.5″ cubes; it doesn’t have to be exact) Put beef in slow cooker Cover with spices and water Cook on high for an hour, then turn to low and cook another seven. If beef hasn’t fallen apart quite as much as you’d like, shred with two forks until it’s the way you like it. Serve on hamburger buns.

Notes If you use steaks to begin with, you could potentially use scissors to cut it and avoid the need for a cutting board. The colder the meat, the easier it will be to cut.

This is easy to toss together in the morning and have ready for supper. If you have any leftovers, you can make some gravy, stir the leftovers from this in, and serve it over potatoes.

Alternatively, you could just add some taco sauce and serve the leftovers as a shredded beef taco filling with cheese, lettuce and tomato – there are lots of possibilities.

On the next Foodie Friday we’ll be veering away from recipes to discuss some other food-related topics. Stay tuned!
